Weekly Update | December 22, 2024

On December 21, 1924 the good people of St. John’s Church opened the doors of this magnificent Cathedral home 100 years ago. Please join us this Sunday, on the 4th Sunday of Advent, to continue our centennial celebrations as St. John’s begins its Second Century.

At the 10am service, we will reveal the final piece of the Centennial and Advent vestments, which is a beautiful Sarum blue altar frontal.

The heart of our worship is our eucharistic feast as we gather to share in this sacred meal. Thanks to the generosity of cathedral members, families and friends, St. John’s will have complete sets of new vestments for every season of the liturgical year. Vestments in green for Epiphany and Ordinary Time, Sarum Blue for Advent, White for Christmas, Easter, weddings and funerals, Red for Pentecost and ordinations and Purple for Lent have been designed and exquisitely made by Chagall Design for St. John’s. Many thanks to all of you who have led the way, and who have given generously to make these special gifts possible.

As you will read, there are a few more opportunities to dedicate a new vestment to St. John’s Cathedral as a special gift for our Second Century. Funding is needed for the blue, white and red altar frontals and for the red cope. Please let either Canon Gaines or Mr. Kyle Black know of your interest in being a part of this very special time in the life of our Cathedral.

There will be one other special reveal on Sunday, which is the proposed vision for the development of the property on Figueroa, which is currently under lease. Come and see. The project on Flower is slated to break ground in 2025.

Come let us adore Him, as we draw near to Christmas.

With love and blessings,
