Overview

Our 1925 Romanesque Revival building is situated in the heart of West Adams near University Park. St. John's has been an architectural landmark of the Figueroa Corridor for almost one-hundred years along with the historic home of the Automobile Club of Southern California and St. Vincent's Catholic Church. Our return to the ancient Christian practice of worship without pews allows our sacred space the flexibility to host your unique celebration.

There are two ways in which one can get married at St. John’s. The first is to simply rent the facility and supply your own officiant. If this is your preference, please click here to fill out the wedding booking inquiry form.

Second, become part of our community and our clergy will officiate at your ceremony. Members "make an offering of themselves, their lives and labors, in union with Christ, for the purposes of God" (BCP, p. 857).

We believe marriage is the sacramental rite of the church in which two persons “enter into a lifelong union, make their vows before God and the Church, and receive the grace and blessing of God to help them fulfill their vows” (BCP, p. 861). To support you in your married life as Christians, clergy will meet with you or marriage preparation sessions several times before your wedding.

Do you perform marriages for LGBTQ+ people at St. John’s

The short answer is yes. The Episcopal Church welcomes everyone to become part of the Christian community. St. John’s is a diverse community where many LGBTQ+ people participate fully in the life of the congregation. Please see the sections above as to how to become part of our congregation. The expectations regarding marriage apply to everyone equally.
